The society is non-profit and tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) and has focused on collecting, preserving, and disseminating information of historical and genealogical value in twenty-seven contiguous counties located in central Georgia.
CGGS has dissolved. Previously, we held monthly educational meetings with programs on local history, genealogical records and resources, methodology, DNA and military history. Our members are eager to assist genealogy beginners.
More intensive study can be found through the CGGS DNA Focus Group.
CGGS published a bi-monthly newsletter with society news and on an irregular basis a Journal containing articles such as transcribed court records, cemetery surveys, family Bible records and local history. CGGS has published 45 books many of which are in print and available for purchase from CGGS for a very limited time. For more information see the Publications tab.

CGGS has dissolved due to an inadequate number of volunteers to carry on the work of the society. We have plans to connect with our genealogy friends and former members via Zoom and talk about genealogy in 2026. CGGS 2025 members will receive one or two Newsletters in 2026 which will include details for planned Zoom meetings. Our DNA Focus Group still meets! See the Calendar page for details.
